Standard size of a brick
- Standard size of a brick in India is defined by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
According to IS 1077:1992, the standard modular size of a brick in India is:
- 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm (without mortar) → This is the actual brick size.
- 200 mm × 100 mm × 100 mm (with mortar, i.e., nominal size) → This is the nominal size, including the mortar thickness (typically 10 mm on each face).
Note:
- Traditional bricks (non-modular) in some regions may still follow older sizes like 230 × 110 × 70 mm, but these are not BIS-standard and are being phased out.
